Public Health Warning Letter Regarding San Diego – J. George Araujo, Civil Engineer – April 10, 2017 (This prescient letter was written and submitted to the City of San Diego months before the Hepatitis A outbreak which killed 20 and sickened 592 of our homeless brothers and sisters. No one in City Hall listened to the dire warnings.)

Phoenix Shows Homeless Campus Can Work – The Colorado Springs Business Journal – Ralph Routon – May 8, 2015 (Learn about this operating SUNBREAK RANCH model in Phoenix. In San Diego, it could be so much more.)
Another prime location opportunity for Sunbreak Ranch is on the vast land parcels owned by the City of San Diego and County of San Diego in the Otay Mesa / Brown Field area. It is a spectacular open space setting with breathtaking views and fresh air, just 13 miles southeast of downtown San Diego. The area is easily and quickly accessible via highways 905 and 125, with MTS bus and trolley connections already in service.
Take Back San Diego is a non-partisan, non-political grassroots coalition of native (and long-time) San Diegans who, in unison, are saying NO MORE to the homeless status quo of suffering.
“We don’t claim to have the solution to homelessness, it is a human tragedy with a thousand and one origins. However, we do claim to have an approach that will end the widespread inhumane suffering taking place on our streets, canyons and parks. The answer is Sunbreak Ranch. It can be implemented today and replicated everywhere.”
Decades of band-aide solutions got us into this crisis…and repeating the same certainly won’t get us out of it now. Bottom line, without a “definable plan” and a “dedicated funding stream” we can forget about ending San Diego’s homeless humanitarian crisis. Therefore, a Citizen’s Initiative may be our only way out of this this predicament.
Sunbreak is designed to be a large-scale temporary ranch in the layout of the Old California Ranchos – befitting California’s rich history and topography. It will be a creative, one-of-a-kind location featuring 35 plus amenities and benefits that strive to make the Ranch the best possible temporary home for our homeless brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors.
The following individuals and organizations have endorsed the concept of immediately implementing the Sunbreak Plan as the Comprehensive Homeless Solution for San Diego and the United States of America. We invite everyone to join us in endorsing Sunbreak – to do so please email us using the website contact form.
Sunbreak is designed to be the location solution for all homeless persons in need — a triage center that will help each individual get where best fits their needs:
Sunbreak Ranch is not site-specific or location-dependent. We are open-minded to all site opportunities that meet the needs of our homeless brothers and sisters.
Miramar and Otay Mesa are our favored locations, both being about 15 minutes from downtown San Diego. In fact, these locations are closer to downtown San Diego than Scripps Ranch, Mira Mesa, and Del Mar. And thousands commute downtown daily from distances much further away.
Based on our “Federal Leadership, Local Control” approach to homelessness, the unused federal lands just east of Interstate 15 on the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar presents a unique and compelling opportunity. This location is at the heart of San Diego County and easily accessible to everyone. From Interstate 15, exit Miramar Way, head east for about three seconds and park…then IMAGINE the possibilities in this beautiful setting:
